Sometimes, I can’t help but throw a little humor into a piece, and this one’s a play on words if I’ve ever made one. ‘Steer Trippin’ Stirrup’ takes the old rodeo event—steer tripping—and gives it a twist that’ll make you look twice. Here, you’ve got a steer balanced up on a stirrup, and it’s a stirrup sized proportionately to match. Maybe he got caught, maybe he’s just showing off, but either way, this piece is as much about the fun as it is about the craftsmanship.

Steer tripping’s been a part of cowboy life for as long as there’s been cattle to doctor and cowboys to rope ‘em. But you won’t see too many steers perched up like this.
